The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will hold a hearing on August 6 and 7 to investigate the circumstances surrounding the departure of a door plug from a Boeing 737-9 MAX passenger jet during flight. This hearing aims to gather crucial information to determine the facts, circumstances, and probable cause of the incident, and to develop recommendations for improving transportation safety.

The incident occurred on January 5, when the left mid-exit door plug of Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 detached at about 16,000 feet shortly after departing from Portland, Oregon. The flight, destined for Ontario, California, experienced rapid decompression following the loss of the door plug. The flight crew returned to Portland, where the airplane landed safely. Eight of the 171 passengers and six crew members onboard reported minor injuries.

The hearing will take place at the NTSB Boardroom and Conference Center, located at 429 L’Enfant Plaza, SW, Washington DC 20024. It will be open to the public, but only NTSB board members, investigators, scheduled witnesses, and parties to the hearing will participate. The event will also be livestreamed.
