The two Norwegian carriers had started their collaboration in mid-2022. It initially included combined ticketing on some domestic routes, as well as in flights to the United Kingdom and Spain.

With the extension, the agreement now includes all of Norwegian’s international routes and allows passengers to connect to any point on both airlines’ networks on a single ticket. In addition, customers can check baggage through to their final destination at the airport of departure.

In a press release, Norwegian explained that flights to Bilbao, Burgas, Ibiza, Palanga and Varna are not yet available through the interline agreement «due to system limitations». However, the company assured that they will be included next year.

«Norway is a very important market for both Norwegian and Widerøe, and many of our passengers use both companies when they travel», said Magnus Thome Maursund, CCO of Norwegian. «Therefore, we want to facilitate a simplified travel experience for our joint passengers», he assured.

«Today we emphasise that this opportunity is also available to all our customers on Norwegian’s international routes», stated Christian Skaug, CCO of Widerøe. «If you buy a direct ticket with us now, we will make sure that you only have to check in once and that your luggage goes all the way through – it will be a completely seamless journey», he added.

    The importance of the agreement

The partnership allows the operators to optimise service to their customers and strengthens air connectivity in Norway. This is an important market for both: Norwegian is one of the leading operators in the country and Scandinavia, while Widerøe offers regional connections throughout Norway.

Moreover, such an agreement is highly beneficial because of Norway’s unique geographic and demographic characteristics. In a country with a large territory and sparsely populated regions, air transport is an important tool to improve integration.
