Marabu Airlines obtains its Air Operator’s Certificate and inaugurates flights

Marabu Airlines obtained in the last hours its Air Operator’s Certificate and Operating Licence, which it had applied for last January in Tallinn, Estonia. The new airline is now ready to operate scheduled commercial services and completed its first flight last Saturday.

«We are extremely grateful to the Estonian authorities for great cooperation that allowed us to establish and set up Marabu in four months», said Paul Schwaiger, the airline’s CEO. He highlighted the efficiency of the Baltic country’s system during the process: «This is exactly the environment new companies need for starting up», he remarked.

Marabu Airlines takes off

Last December it became known that investment firm Attestor, which owns 51% of Condor Airlines’ shares, would launch its own leisure airline. The new carrier, based in Estonia, would offer services between Germany and holiday destinations in southern Europe and North Africa.

In the last month of last year it also emerged that Nordic Aviation Group would provide ACMI (leasing of aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) services to the new carrier, using three Airbus A320neo aircraft.

A photograph of the first aircraft to sport the company’s livery was released at the end of March. The aircraft, with manufacturer’s serial number (MSN) 6799, was registered ES-MBU and delivered on 12 April. Three days later, it operated the company’s first commercial flight between Munich (MUC) and Palma de Mallorca (PMI).

Flights to holiday destinations

Marabu Airlines will gradually expand its services from this month. Tickets are already on sale through official Condor Airlines channels.

Initially, the new airline will operate from Hamburg (HAM) and Munich (MUC) airports to popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean, the North Atlantic and the Red Sea, as well as between these two German cities and the Estonian capital.

The first flight between Munich (MUC) and Tallinn (TLL) is scheduled for 21 May, while the first service from Hamburg (HAM) is scheduled for 16 June.
