    Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) expects to add 12 new aircraft by 2024, including its first Airbus A330-900neo. Scheduled to arrive in the third quarter, the group expects to take delivery of four by the end of 2024. The narrowbody segment will add eight Boeing 737-8s to continue its network growth plans.

    In August 2022, MAG signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Avolon, for the acquisition of 20 Airbus A330neo aircraft scheduled for delivery through 2028: ten aircraft will be purchased directly from Airbus with a sale and leaseback agreement to Avolon.

    The addition of these new aircraft is part of Avolon’s commitment to modernize and raise the standards of its service offering, while supporting its post-pandemic growth in the aviation industry.

    MAG A330neo’s Business Class has a 1-2-1 layout and an Elevation seat designed by Collins Aerospace with direct aisle access. With the addition of the new seats, Malaysia Airline will be the first flag carrier to introduce Elevation seating on an A330, installing 28 seats in a 297-passenger configuration.

    Other seat features include USB charging ports, ergonomic cushions, entertainment display (IFE) and ample space, The aircraft will also be equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity.

This expansion is not only about increasing our inventory in number, but also about introducing the first cabin class of its kind, new seats and experiences that prioritize safety, comfort and overall customer satisfaction,» said Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, MAG Group Chief Executive Officer.

    The fleet of six Airbus A350-900s will have a cabin upgrade from 2026 to ensure consistent cabin standardization on par with the A330neo, MAG currently owns a fleet of 104 aircraft through its subsidiaries Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings and MASkargo.
