LASER Airlines announced that it will connect Caracas (CCS) with Santo Domingo del Táchira (STD), a city near the Colombian border, starting April 3, 2025. The route will feature three weekly flights, operated with McDonnell Douglas MD-80 Series aircraft, offering more than 900 seats per week.

    • Flight QL 1934 CCS 10:00 – 11:10 STD / Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays
    • Flight QL 1935 STD 12:10 – 13:20 CCS / Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays

According to Cirium, LASER Airlines last operated in Santo Domingo del Táchira in December 2015, with a daily frequency that at times reached up to three flights per day.

Currently, the airline offers domestic flights to Barcelona (BLA), El Vigía (VIG), La Fría (LFR), Maracaibo (MAR), Porlamar (PMV), and Puerto Ordaz (PZO). Internationally, it serves Bogotá (BOG), Curaçao (CUR), and Madrid (MAD)—the latter through a wet lease agreement with Hi Fly Malta.

On this route, LASER will compete with:

    • Estelar, which operates one daily flight
    • Rutaca, offering five weekly frequencies
    • Conviasa, with two weekly flights

Additionally, Santo Domingo del Táchira remains connected to:

    • Maracaibo (MAR) via Estelar (three weekly flights)
    • Valencia (VLN) via Turpial (weekly flights)
    • Porlamar (PMV) and Maturín (MUN) via Conviasa (three and one weekly frequency, respectively)

Santo Domingo del Táchira has become a strategic hub due to its proximity to the Colombian border (91 km away), facilitating shopping tourism and cross-border travel. The suspension of flights to destinations such as Panama, Peru, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and Chile, due to Venezuela’s geopolitical situation, has increased air traffic at terminals near the border.

The Santo Domingo del Táchira Airport, along with La Fría and San Antonio del Táchira, has gained importance in recent years. However, infrastructure limitations have hindered further expansion of available flights.
