As stated on Korean Air's website, the A350-900 will begin operating this week on routes between Seoul/Incheon and Osaka Kansai, as well as Seoul/Incheon and Fukuoka. In March, the model will also serve the Taipei-Taoyuan route, and by the end of the year, it is expected to operate long-haul flights to European destinations such as Madrid and Rome-Fiumicino, gradually replacing the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

    Passenger Comfort and Seating Configuration

According to the Planespotters portal, the Airbus A350-900 operated by Korean Air is configured to carry 311 passengers in two classes: 28 seats in Business Class and 283 in Economy Class. This setup is similar to that of Asiana Airlines, with which Korean Air is planning a merger. However, specific details about the seating in the new model have yet to be disclosed.

    Streamlining Fleet Operations

Last year, Korean Air placed orders for six Airbus A350-900s and 27 A350-1000s, complemented by pending orders for 20 Boeing 777-9s, 5 Boeing 787-9s, and 35 Boeing 787-10s. The airline’s strategy focuses on consolidating its twin-engine aircraft fleet, phasing out four-engine models such as the Boeing 747-8i and the Airbus A380.

The fleet modernization plan reflects Korean Air's efforts to improve operational efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint. As newer and more efficient aircraft like the A350-900 enter service, the airline aims to remain competitive on both short- and long-haul routes while maintaining a focus on environmental sustainability.
