    ITA Airways further expands its long-haul portfolio, introducing flights from Rome – Fiumicino to Washington – Dulles starting June 2. This makes the U.S. capital the airline’s fifth North American destination, complementing services to New York, Boston, Miami, and Los Angeles.

    Additionally, ITA has planned another new route to the U.S., establishing a non-stop connection between Rome and San Francisco, set to begin on July 1. This new route will feature five weekly flights operated on Airbus A350-900s.

    Flight AZ 618, conducted with the company’s latest Airbus A330-900neo, registered as EI – HJN and named «Gelindo Bordin», departed from Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport (FCO) at 10:40 local time, and arrived at Dulles International Airport (IAD) at 13:41 local time, completing the journey in eight hours and 51 minutes.

    In 2019, according to data procured by Aviacionline via the Italian National Agency for Civil Aviation (ENAC), a total of 166,179 passengers travelled between Rome – Fiumicino and Washington – Dulles. Currently, ITA Airways shares this segment with United Airlines, which also provides daily flights operated on Boeing 777-200ER.

    Route Details

    • From August 1 to October 28, weekly flights will increase from 5 to 7.
    • The route will temporarily suspend operations from January 8, 2024 to February 29, 2024, during the winter season.

    The flights will be facilitated using the Airbus A330-200 aircraft, with promotional roundtrip fares available starting from USD 773.

    During the peak summer season, ITA Airways will provide more than 148,000 seats monthly between the United States and Italy across 540 operations. As per Cirium’s data, this makes ITA the third largest carrier in this market considering the seats per seat kilometer (ASK) offered.

    For the Italian airline, the United States remains a significant long-haul market. ITA continues to add new routes and, through its partnership with Delta Air Lines, offers customers a wide range of connections to various destinations in the U.S. and Mexico via the U.S. carrier’s hubs. As part of its global expansion, ITA has also scheduled a new service to Rio de Janeiro beginning October 30.
