Indra unveils NEXUS, a next-generation tactical simulator for advanced fighter pilot training
Indra unveils an immersive, connected, AI-powered system to train the fighter pilots of the future.
Indra has advanced the field of fighter pilot training with the development of NEXUS, a new tactical simulator that combines immersive experience, AI-assisted mission planning, and connectivity with other simulation systems. Entirely developed by the Spanish company—both hardware and software—NEXUS is designed to meet the most demanding operational requirements, adapting to a wide range of maneuvers and tactical scenarios.
Designed with fifth- and sixth-generation fighter cockpits in mind, NEXUS features a user interface centered around a large touchscreen panoramic display known as a Large Area Display (LAD), increasingly common in next-gen aircraft. This setup allows pilots to train in operational environments shaped by sensor fusion, intuitive system control, and distributed information management—all on a single integrated surface, faithfully replicating the cockpit experience of future air superiority platforms.
Unlike conventional simulators, NEXUS stands out for its integration of a high-fidelity synthetic environment, capable of generating complex and realistic scenarios tailored to the specific needs of each air force. This capability is critical for preparing pilots for modern challenges, from air-to-air and air-to-ground missions to emergency and system failure management, all within a completely safe environment.

Integrated and intelligent training
What sets NEXUS apart from other solutions on the market includes:
An AI-powered mission planning station that enables the creation of complex tactical scenarios using natural language commands, reducing preparation time and enhancing training flexibility.
Joint and connected training capabilities, allowing for multi-platform and multinational exercises through interoperability with other simulation systems.
An immersive “cave” environment with a semi-dome display and three visual channels, complemented by physical flight controls and a touchscreen cockpit instrumentation interface—offering a superior level of realism.
An external instructor station capable of monitoring and altering mission development in real time.
These features place NEXUS in a leading position within the global tactical simulation market, particularly for its focus on enhancing training quality for complex and collaborative operations—an increasingly vital need for modern air forces.
Strong track record in simulation
With over 200 simulators delivered across 23 countries, Indra is among the world’s top manufacturers. The company brings extensive experience from major programs such as the Eurofighter Typhoon, the A400M, and various rotary-wing platforms including the NH90 and CH-47F Chinook. Indra has also been a pioneer in integrating virtual and augmented reality, along with advanced digital environments, into both military and civil simulation—achieving Level D certification for commercial aviation simulators.
