Iberia Maintenance and HK Express, Cathay Pacific’s low-cost subsidiary, signed a long-term contract for the maintenance of 32 V2500 engines powering its Airbus A320ceo family fleet.

Key parts of the bid were efficiency gains, such as expanding its parts repair capacity, adjusting work packages to ensure shop visits are optimized, and used material procurement (USM).

In late 2012, Iberia Maintenance began working with the support of IAG to acquire the capability from International Aero Engines (IAE) to provide maintenance and repair services for the V2500 engine.

In 2015, the company acquired the Pratt & Whitney license for maintenance of that engine and joined the IAE network, which distributes its customers’ engines to network partners for repair and overhaul. At that time, Iberia Maintenance became the first non-IAE workshop to inspect these engines.

Iberia Maintenance’s Engine Shop specializes in CFM56, V2500 and RB211 engines and serves a range of international customers, including airlines, OEMs and general industry. V2500 engines account for more than half of the company’s current business volume. Last October, Iberia Maintenance received the license to service the Pratt & Whitney GTFTM engines. The first engine of the series will be inducted in the second quarter of 2023.

HK Express currently owns a fleet of five Airbus A320ceo and eleven Airbus A321ceo.

«That contract is recognition of the Iberia Maintenance teams who strive for constant improvement as we continue to develop our service offering on the V2500, working closely with industry partners to bring real value to the customer,» states Andy Best, Iberia Maintenance Technical Director.

«Our vision is to be the leading low-cost airline in Asia. The HK Express team is always looking for the most optimal maintenance solution, based on the key principles of agility, efficiency and simplicity. We hope that this agreement with Iberia Maintenance will help us to consolidate our vision», explains Alan Tang, General Manager of Maintenance and Engineering of HK Express.
