Iberia Express celebrates 10 years of operation
On March 25, 2012, the flight between Madrid and Alicante inaugurated the operations of Iberia Express, the Iberia Group’s low-cost airline. Born under the idea of becoming a feeder of the main line with lower operating costs -a matter that has created more than one controversy-, Iberia Express quickly became a fundamental vector of the Group’s short and medium-haul routes.
The carrier currently has a fleet of nineteen active aircraft with an average age of 12.5 years. With its eleven Airbus A320s and 8 A321s (four ceo and four neo) it operates to more than forty domestic and international destinations from its hub in Madrid.
It became the fourth operator at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport by number of passengers and the number one between Madrid and the Canary Islands, standing out for offering an unusual business class for the segment’s offer.
Iberia Express is internationally recognized for its punctuality: it won FlightGlobal’s award for the world’s most punctual low cost five years in a row (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018) and in 2019 it remained the most punctual low cost in Europe, reaching 6 awards.
The company is a member of Oneworld and operates codeshares with British Airways, Finnair, LATAM, Japan Airlines, American Airlines, Avianca, Air Lingus and Royal Air Maroc, among others.
