A significant portion of the funding will be allocated to the expansion of Guadalajara International Airport (GDL), Mexico’s third-busiest airport, in what GAP describes as a “historic transformation”.

Guadalajara Airport Expansion: New Terminal & Infrastructure

GAP will invest $1.07 billion USD to build a 69,000-square-meter passenger terminal, increasing available space by 70%. The plan also includes acquiring 283 hectares of surrounding land for long-term growth.

    Second Runway & Increased Capacity

In July 2023, GAP inaugurated a second parallel runway (3,538 meters long, 45 meters wide). While not allowing simultaneous operations, it enables segregated operations, with one runway for departures and the other for arrivals. This will increase the airport’s capacity by 50% to 70%, allowing up to 60 operations per hour.

Guadalajara Airport: 2024 Traffic & Airline Market Share

In 2024, Guadalajara International Airport handled 17.8 million passengers, a 0.8% increase compared to 2023.

    • International passengers: 5.9 million (+13.5%)
    • Domestic passengers: 11.9 million (-4.5%)
