Frontier Airlines’ Significant Expansion in Puerto Rico: New Routes and Services
Frontier Airlines has embarked on a significant expansion in Puerto Rico, launching seven new routes this week to San Juan (SJU), Aguadilla (BQN), and Ponce (PSE). As of May 11, the airline will also commence a unique international service from Luis Muñoz Marin Airport (SJU) to Cancun (CUN), the sole carrier for this route.

Frontier’s extended services to San Juan (SJU) comprise flights from Cleveland (CLE), Baltimore (BWI), Chicago – Midway (MDW), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), and Detroit (DTW). Additionally, nonstop connections will be available from Tampa (TPA) to Aguadilla (BQN), and from Orlando (MCO) to Ponce (PSE).
Jorge Hernández, Aerostar Puerto Rico’s CEO, acknowledged the substantial growth, «This is Frontier’s largest expansion in its history, incorporating eight new nonstop routes to seven U.S. cities, and a service to Mexico via Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport as a gateway.»
Frontier is now offering a limited-time GoWild! All-You-Can-Fly Summer PassTM for $499 USD. This pass provides unlimited flights between May and September, along with additional rewards for Elite members. Detailed terms and conditions can be found on the airline’s website.
During the 2023 summer season, Frontier will have a supply of over 250,000 seats per month to Puerto Rico, spanning 20 routes. According to Cirium, Frontier is the third-largest carrier on the Caribbean island measured by available seat kilometers (ASK). The airline’s new routes are promoting fares as low as $99 each way.
Daniel Shurz, senior vice president commercial at Frontier Airlines, emphasised the expansion’s benefits: «This significant expansion in Puerto Rico links the island to some of the most sought-after destinations in the U.S. and Cancun, boosting tourism and providing Puerto Ricans with greater access to Frontier’s ‘Low Fares Done Right’ for travel to the U.S.»
