The French Air and Space Force has launched Operation Bubo 25, a strategic deployment in the Caribbean aimed at reinforcing air security around the Guiana Space Center ahead of the Ariane 6 heavy rocket launch. This mission involves a transatlantic deployment of air assets, including three Rafale fighter jets, an A400M transport aircraft, and an A330 MRTT Phénix multi-role tanker. Additionally, an E-3F AWACS early warning aircraft may also take part.

According to the French outlet Le 97150, Operation Bubo 25 will unfold in three phases:

    1. Deployment of Forces in French Guiana

The coordinated transfer of Rafale jets, the A400M, and the A330 Phénix MRTT will establish French aerial presence in the region.

    2. Airspace Protection

During the launch of the CSO-3 military observation satellite aboard the Ariane 6 rocket on February 26, the deployed forces will secure airspace integrity and ensure mission safety over French Guiana.

    3. Joint Exercises and Military Presence Reinforcement

From March 1 to 4, French forces will conduct joint maneuvers in the French Antilles, enhancing maritime surveillance, counter-narcotics operations, and disaster response capabilities.

In this final phase, inter-service operations will take place from the Lamentin State Aeronautical Hub in Martinique. The A400M will play a key role in strategic transport and logistical support across the Caribbean islands, showcasing its versatility in humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

    A Historic Deployment

This mission is historic, marking the first deployment of Rafale fighter jets in the French Antilles. These aircraft will conduct "flag demonstration" missions, through which France aims to showcase its power projection capabilities in the region. At the same time, this operation strengthens the expeditionary capabilities of the French Air and Space Force.
