FlexBox by SITA: Revolutionizing Airport Check-In with Compact, Mobile Technology

During the IATA Wings of Change conference held last month in Santiago, Chile, SITA presented a new solution that they define as the evolution of the current self-service check-in kiosks: FlexBox. As its name indicates, it consists of a small box 30 centimeters in height that can be installed both in airports and other locations to offer passengers the ability to check in quickly, securely, and conveniently.
The FlexBox solution is mobile and compact, requiring only power and internet access, which significantly reduces installation costs compared to existing check-in kiosks on the market.
Passengers can check in, print baggage tags, and check in their luggage on a single device, thus optimizing the process they need to complete at the airport before boarding.
SITA highlighted that this technology can also be integrated with other modes, such as maritime, allowing passengers to check in quickly upon disembarking from a cruise before heading to the airport, thus freeing up space and resources in terminals.
This has already been tested at the Seymour Galapagos Ecological Airport, where the solution extends to the cruise terminal.
«SITA FlexBox works to optimize physical spaces in airports, allowing for better organization in self check-in and baggage dispatch processes. Additionally, the technology prevents bottlenecks in terminals, directly impacting the passenger experience,» the company detailed.
«The solution is suitable for all types of airports, but it is essential for small regional airports, as it can provide more space, avoid long lines, and free airport agents for more complex tasks,» they added.
