Exolum to invest over €50 million to upgrade aviation fuel infrastructure at Barcelona Airport
Exolum will invest more than €50 million to upgrade the aviation fuel storage and distribution infrastructure at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport, following the renewal of its concession awarded by AENA for a 15-year term.
The project includes significant upgrades aimed at enhancing operational safety, improving energy efficiency, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, according to the company. Planned works involve updates to the hydrant system, manholes, and connection pits, as well as the modernization of pumping systems and fire protection infrastructure.
The company highlights that the upgrades will feature high levels of automation, intended to improve leak prevention and increase the efficiency of fuel distribution operations at one of Spain’s busiest airports.
Additional investments will go towards implementing environmental safeguards and technologies to reduce the site’s carbon footprint, in line with Exolum’s sustainability objectives.
Jorge Guillén, Aviation & Spain Network Lead at Exolum, said “we are proud to have submitted an outstanding technical and financial offer that has allowed us to renew this concession. This project not only ensures the continuity of Exolum’s services at Barcelona Airport, one of the most important in Spain, but also strengthens our ongoing commitment to sustainability, innovation, and efficiency.”
