Embraer Establishes Fully-Owned Subsidiary in India to Strengthen Aerospace and Defense Ties
Embraer is deepening its commitment to the Indian market with the establishment of a wholly owned subsidiary, with its corporate office set to open in AeroCity, New Delhi. This strategic move underscores Embraer’s long-term vision for growth and collaboration within India’s dynamic aerospace and defense sectors.
The new Indian subsidiary will consolidate Embraer’s interests across multiple segments, including defense, commercial aviation, executive aviation, services and support, and the emerging urban air mobility market. The company is actively expanding its local team to build capabilities that tap into India’s growing aerospace industry. These plans include the creation of specialized teams in corporate functions, procurement, supply chain, and engineering.
Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer, stated, “India is a key market for Embraer, and this expansion reflects our unwavering commitment to the country. We are excited to deepen our collaboration with India’s aerospace and defense industry, leveraging our expertise and technology to contribute to the nation’s growth and to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. We see significant opportunities in defense, commercial and executive aviation, services, and the emerging urban air mobility sector.”
Embraer already maintains a solid presence in India, with approximately 50 aircraft across 11 different models currently operating in the country. These aircraft serve commercial, defense, and executive aviation sectors and are supported by Embraer’s local services and support infrastructure.
The move also reflects stronger Brazil–India relations, reinforcing a shared commitment to deep collaboration and mutual growth. Embraer’s participation in events such as the upcoming IATA Annual General Meeting 2025 in New Delhi highlights the company’s strategic focus on the Indian market and its ongoing engagement with key industry stakeholders.
This announcement follows a series of earlier strategic steps in India. In February 2024, Embraer Defense & Security and Mahindra Defence Systems signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore a joint bid to supply the C-390 Millennium for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program.
The C-390 Millennium is a next-generation multi-mission aircraft, engineered to meet 21st-century operational demands. It flies faster (470 knots), has greater range with a standard crew day, and can carry a higher payload (26 tons) than other medium-sized military transport aircraft. Fully operational, the C-390 supports a wide range of missions including cargo and troop transport, medical evacuation, search and rescue, humanitarian missions, aerial firefighting, and in-flight refueling, both as a tanker and receiver.
In commercial aviation, Embraer’s E-Jet family plays a key role in enhancing India’s regional air connectivity, opening new routes to second- and third-tier cities. This aligns with India’s aspirations to become a global aviation hub. E-Jets are particularly well-suited for underserved routes, offering greater range than turboprops and optimized capacity for low-density markets, bridging the gap between large narrowbodies and regional demands. Operators like Star Air, which exclusively flies Embraer E175 and ERJ145 aircraft, showcase how E-Jets support regional expansion.
Among the Embraer aircraft operated by Indian forces are the Legacy 600, used by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Border Security Force (BSF) for VIP and government transport. Additionally, the IAF operates the 'Netra' Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft, based on the Embraer ERJ145 platform.
