Edelweiss Air Goes 'Neo': First New-Generation A320 Gets a Delivery Date
Edelweiss, Switzerland's leading leisure airline and part of the Lufthansa Group, announced an expansion of its short- and medium-haul fleet, which will reach a total of 16 aircraft by April 2026. This growth will be achieved through the transfer of two aircraft from its sister company, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS).
The plan involves the arrival of an Airbus A320ceo, registration HB-JLQ, in mid-October 2025. Subsequently, in April 2026, Edelweiss will receive its first Airbus A320neo, registration HB-JDB, marking a step forward in its fleet modernization.
This strategic move strengthens Edelweiss's presence at its main base, Zurich Airport (ZRH), and aligns its operations with the efficiency and sustainability goals of the Lufthansa Group. Intra-group aircraft transfers are a common practice that allows for flexible fleet management tailored to market demand.
What's changing in the Edelweiss fleet?
First A320neo: The airline will operate the new-generation A320 model for the first time.
Fleet Expansion: The number of short-haul aircraft will grow from 14 to 16.
Origin of Aircraft: Both aircraft come from the active SWISS fleet.
Key Dates: October 2025 (A320ceo) and April 2026 (A320neo).
‘I am delighted that Edelweiss is continuing to develop on short- and medium-haul routes and that we are taking an important step towards modernising our short-haul fleet with the first Airbus A320neo. The aircraft combines state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technology with greater comfort for our guests,’ said Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss.
In addition to the A320s, the SWISS fleet is composed of two Airbus A350-900s and five A340-300.
