    On July 15 Avianca inaugurated its flights between San José (SJO) and Washington (IAD) with four weekly flights, the only non-stop service between Costa Rica and the US capital during the boreal summer season. The company will offer 1,140 seats per week.

    Flight AV 662 was operated in an Airbus A320 registered with registration number N689TA, the aircraft took off from Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) at 17:20 local time and landed at Dulles Airport (IAD) at 23:36.

    This is the fourth destination of the airline inaugurated in the United States from Costa Rica, Avianca in recent months trained new services to Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK) and Miami (MIA), to serve the main markets for Costa Rican and U.S. travelers.

    According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT), 556,062 U.S. tourists have arrived at Costa Rica by air during the period January – May 2022. The United States is the main market for the Central American country and currently nine airlines offer flights between both nations.

    Flight Itinerary

    • San José – Washington DC Flight AV 662 SJO 17:10 – IAD 23:50 Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
    • Washington DC – San José Flight AV 663 IAD 02:30 – SJO 05:30 Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.

    The flights will be operated in Airbus A320 and Airbus A319 aircraft with a capacity of 150 and 120 seats in two classes respectively, and promotional fares are available from 164 USD each way.

    According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Dirección General de Aviación Civil (DGAC), 15,624 passengers and 2,542 tons of cargo were transported between Costa Rica and Washington Dulles (IAD) in 2020.
