Conviasa seeks to incorporate a Boeing 747 freighter to its fleet

With the intention of strengthening its network of cargo flights to the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Asia, the Venezuelan state airline Conviasa is looking for a Boeing 747 freighter in the used aircraft market, according to our partner in Brazil, Aeroin.
If confirmed and managed to circumvent commercial restrictions to acquire a jumbo jet, it will be the third aircraft of this type in the company’s fleet. That’s because, between 2016 and 2017, the airline had two Boeing 747-400s leased from the Spanish company Wamos Air, which were even painted in the Conviasa livery. It should be noted, however, that they were passenger planes and were intended for routes from Caracas to Madrid and Buenos Aires.
Last week Conviasa had announced an agreement with the ChivenExpress portal, through which residents in Venezuela can purchase products in China and be delivered directly to the country within a maximum period of between 10 and 20 days.
«This is possible thanks to the fact that the state aeronautics firm strengthened its air operations in the cargo service, a macro-project materialized after articulating with the governments of sister countries, which has allowed the export and import of merchandise and in turn support the national and foreigner business sector,» they indicated from the airline in this regard.
Conviasa’s fleet currently consists of 1 A340-200, 1 A340-300, 16 Embraer E190s and 8 Cessna 208 Caravans for regional operations. Last month they had reported that they were working to reinstate an ATR 42-500 and an ATR 72-200 that were deactivated to their fleet.
