Delta Air Lines resumes operations between Hawaii and Japan with the start of new nonstop service between Honolulu and Tokyo/Haneda. The start of this route was delayed multiple times as a result of travel restrictions and low demand. This is also the carrier’s sixth service to Haneda, following the closure of the hub at Narita Airport.

Delta’s flights between Japan and Hawaii are inherited from the Northwest Airlines merger, over the years the airline reduced seat capacity and frequencies due to competition and route network restructuring. The pre-pandemic U.S. airline suspended service from Honolulu to Osaka/Kansai, Nagoya/Chubu and Fukuoka.

Delta will offer 3,024 seats per week between Hawaii and Japan this winter season, a decrease of 83.2% compared to the capacity offered a decade ago. On the Tokyo – Honolulu segment, the carrier will compete with All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and ZIPAir Tokyo.

Schedule of flights between Haneda and Honolulu

    Starts October 28, 2023.

    • Honolulu – Tokyo/Haneda Flight DL 180 HNL 14:00 – HND 18:45+1 daily flights.
    • Tokyo/Haneda – Honolulu Flight DL 181 HND 21:00 – HNL 08:55 daily flights.

    Delta Air Lines in Japan

Delta currently operates five daily flights between the U.S. and Japan; with the new service between Honolulu and Tokyo, the airline will cement its position as the leading U.S. carrier at Haneda. At this time, the carrier has not announced its plans to connect Portland to Tokyo.
