Biomig, the automated migration service that uses facial recognition technology, continues to transform the experience of travelers passing through Colombian airports by allowing them to enter and exit the country in under a minute. In a new partnership, Avianca and Migración Colombia have launched an incentive campaign that will run from December 12, 2024 to January 30, 2025.

Travelers registering for Biomig for the first time at the airports in Bogotá, Medellín, and Cartagena will be able to choose between two benefits: a promotional code worth 25 USD for international flights with Avianca or 5,000 LifeMiles, which will be credited to their account upon completing the process.
Those interested in registering for Biomig should go to the designated stations in each airport:

    • Bogotá: Counter 68 at El Dorado Airport, second floor, access through door 5.
    • Medellín: Filter 9 in the emigration module.
    • Cartagena: Emigration filter.

Registration includes scanning a QR code, filling out a form, and waiting for validation, which may take between 5 and 7 business days depending on the selected incentive.

Impact of Biomig on migration processes

Biomig uses iris recognition technology to speed up passage through migration filters, reducing the time to just 30 seconds. This service, free and voluntary, benefits thousands of travelers.

During a previous campaign conducted between July and August 2024, more than 1,500 users registered for Biomig. Of these, 300 chose the 25 USD promotional code, while 1,200 opted to accumulate LifeMiles.

In 2024, Migración Colombia recorded 4,239,337 migration movements, surpassing the 3,721,257 of the previous year, reflecting improved efficiency in processes thanks to initiatives like Biomig.

A joint effort between Avianca and Migración Colombia

Felipe Andrés Gómez, Director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability at Avianca, highlighted the importance of such partnerships in positioning Colombia as a connection hub in South America. “For Colombia to be the gateway to South America, we need agile and secure migration processes. Biomig is a powerful tool for achieving that goal,” said Gómez.
