Colombian state-owned airline SATENA to operate flights between Bogota and Caracas
According to statements made by Colombia’s Minister of Transportation, the Colombian Air Force-owned development airline «is ready» to operate the route between the capitals of Colombia and Venezuela, after the complications suffered by the operation approval process for the other operators of both countries that requested permission for the link.
SATENA (acronym for Servicio Aéreo a Territorios Nacionales – Air Service to National Territories) is a commercial passenger airline, owned by the Colombian State and founded on April 12, 1962. It is headquartered in Fontibón, Bogotá.
The company operates regional and domestic routes considered as promotional -with no expectation of positive commercial results- and owns a fleet of 10 aircraft, including ATR 42/72 turboprops and Embraer 145 regional jets.
The minister indicated that there is a possibility that an Air Force Boeing 737-700 – a former Delta airliner with registration number N302DQ, which was incorporated as FAC 1220 – will cover flights on the route, providing greater capacity than the aforementioned aircraft.
