Colombia: new civil aviation director promises a «crusade against corruption».

In a ceremony that took place this Tuesday in Bogota, Sergio París Mendoza formally took office as the new director of the Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics of Colombia (known as Aerocivil).

Prior to this position, Paris Mendoza served during the last year and a half as Coordinator of International Standards Management, Head of the Advisory Office of Planning and Strategic Direction Specialist of the Civil Aeronautics. In total, he has 28 years of experience in Aerocivil.

The 61 year-old official graduated from Universidad del Rosario as a business administrator, has a specialization in Project Development and Evaluation, and an MBA focused on Aerospace Management from the Business School of Toulouse, France.

During his inauguration, Paris Mendoza said that he will lead a «crusade against corruption in Civil Aviation», assuring that civil aviation «can contribute greatly to achieve total peace in Colombia».

He also said that «the first rule» in the institution will be «to do everything possible to keep the organization away from corruption», which will result in achieving «that all officials reject it, make a shield to avoid it, in such a strong fabric that allows society to recognize that effort».

This is in relation to the allegations made public in November through a publication of Semana magazine, in which a hundred Aerocivil officials were involved in acts ranging from collaboration with drug trafficking to the issuance of pilot licenses through the payment of bribes.
