    This January 3, Officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, along with officers from the Department of Disaster and Emergency Management, Fire Department officials and Emergency Services were actively engaged in a search and rescue operation for a Cessna 340A registration N824BC en route from Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis to the Providenciales International Airport.

    Preliminary reports received indicate that at about 11:40 am today, Turks and Caicos local time, a call was placed to the 911 Operations Center indicating that a flight originating in St. Kitts had crashed 17 miles southeast of the Providenciales Airport with 4 persons on board.

    According to Loop News, the four occupants of the aircraft were rescued alive after receiving initial assistance from a fisherman who approached the crashed plane.

    The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force said in a statement issued shortly before 18.00 local time that after an intensive and comprehensive combined operation, it can confirm that the four people involved in this morning’s plane crash were rescued today at around 15.39 hours.

    According to FlightRadar24, the Cessna 340A acquired an altitude of 15,000 feet bordering 200 knots. However, 2h45m later, it had a sharp descent to 5,000ft altitude with a speed drop to approx. 115 knots.
