The British airline will begin flying from London/Heathrow to Cologne/Bonn (CGN), Germany; Riga (RIX), Latvia; and Belgrade (BEG), Serbia, thus joining Fuerteventura (FUE), announced last month.

British Airways had previously operated flights to these three cities. With this announcement, it will increase the number of European cities it serves to 123, through its three bases in London (Gatwick, Heathrow & London City).

Details of British Airways’ new destinations

    • Cologne/Bonn (CGN), Germany

Cologne/Bonn, a destination served before the pandemic, will return on October 30, 2023, with an offering of twelve weekly flights. British Airways will face competition from Eurowings, which currently offers up to three daily flights between Cologne and Heathrow. In addition, Ryanair operates flights from London/Stansted, indirectly competing with British Airways.

    • Riga (RIX), Latvia

Riga, initially announced as a destination in 2021, but not operated until now, will finally see its inaugural flight on October 29, 2023. British Airways had operated in the Latvian capital until 2007.

Three weekly flights (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday) will connect London/Heathrow with Riga. British Airways will be the only airline operating this route from Heathrow, but will face indirect competition from airBaltic, Ryanair, and Wizz Air, flying from Gatwick, Stansted, and Luton respectively.

    • Belgrade (BEG), Serbia

British Airways will resume flights to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, after a thirteen-year absence. Starting October 31, 2023, three weekly flights (Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday) will connect Heathrow with Belgrade.

The airline’s direct competitor on this route will be Air Serbia, which operates twelve weekly flights between Belgrade and Heathrow. Indirectly, British Airways will compete with Wizz Air, flying from Luton.
