In July of last year, the Dominican Republic opened to international traffic without limitations and is one of the Latin American countries that has persevered the most in reactivating tourism during the pandemic. For all these reasons, it has become a destination of great international attraction.

Santo Domingo is the route on which Iberia has recovered its capacity most rapidly and, for this reason, the airline has accompanied this reactivation of demand with an increased offer: from the daily flight in December 2020, it increased to nine in May, to ten in June and to 11 weekly flights in the northern summer.

In November, Iberia decided to further increase its offer and in its new schedule, for this season two more flights will be added to reach 13 weekly frequencies. The operation is with Airbus A330-300 aircraft, with a capacity for 292 passengers: 29 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy and 242 in Economy, and a greater cargo capacity (20 tons).

LEVEL -also part of the IAG Group- will extend its route to Cancun during the winter with a weekly frequency from Barcelona, available from November 29, and starting on December 4, it will connect with Punta Cana with a weekly flight departing from Barcelona on Saturdays and returning on Sundays.

Víctor Moneo, LATAM Sales, and Institutional Agreements Director, commented: «From the tourism standpoint, we value very positively the Dominican government’s wise decision, which has been able to reconcile prevention and health care measures with the greatest vigilance, together with other measures aimed at boosting the recovery of this sector, which is so vital to the country’s economy».

«For our part, this year we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of our flights to Latin America and, in the case of the Dominican Republic, Iberia’s first flight dates to 1967. During all these years, we have maintained our commitment to the island, and, for this reason, we have decided to accompany this effort – in coordination with MINTUR – with a significant increase in our flight offer, making it the first destination in Latin America to significantly exceed the frequencies we already offered before the pandemic», he concluded.
