Growing Air Traffic Between China and Spain

Air traffic between China and Spain has seen steady growth, driven in part by the absence of Western airlines in the region. This has allowed Chinese carriers to expand their presence in the European market.

Chinese airlines benefit from access to Russian airspace, enabling them to operate shorter routes at lower costs compared to their European competitors.

Currently, six airlines operate direct flights between China and Spain: Air China, Beijing Capital Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, and Sichuan Airlines (starting April 2025). These carriers connect Madrid and Barcelona with seven Chinese cities.
