Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) obtained the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its B737-800SF from the UK and Canadian authorities. The model is already approved by the FAA, CAAC, EASA, TCCA, Cayman, Guernsey, and the CAA.

    United Kingdom

This is the first approval granted by the UK to AEI. In the past, when the UK was part of the European Union, type-certificate awards were made by EASA. Since Brexit, approvals in the UK are handled by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, or CAA.

AEI announced that the first aircraft of the type has just arrived in the UK and will commence operations shortly with an undisclosed customer.

    Canada

AEI obtained approval in January from Transport Canada Civil Aviation, Canada’s commercial aviation regulator, for the conversion of the model. Chrono Aviation will be the first operator of the type in the North Country, which last month signed the contract with AEI to purchase a unit of the B737-800SF.

The B737-800SF is the only 737 family freighter conversion with ETOPS 180 approval, allowing for greater operational flexibility. Such conversion can be performed on any model of Boeing aircraft, including those with split scimitar winglets.

The B737-800SF offers a main deck payload of up to 52,700 lbs (23,900 kgs) and features eleven positions for 88″ x 125″ containers. The conversion also incorporates new floor beams at the rear of the wing box and an 86″ x 137″ cargo door. In addition, AEI’s B737-800SF includes an Ancra cargo system, a 9G rigid barrier, five seats, a galley, and a full lavatory.
