Avianca to resume routes to Spain from Medellín and Cali this summer
As part of the air and tourist reactivation between the two countries, Avianca is studying the possibility of resuming its routes to Madrid, which it operated before the pandemic, as reported by the media Holteltur.
According to Manuel Ambriz, Chief Commercial Officer, and Catalina Nanning, VP of Sales and Distribution of Avianca, the airline would like to resume the Cali-Madrid and Medellin-Madrid routes this summer.
Thus, the Colombian flag carrier would once again compete in this market, which is currently led by Iberia, with the Cali-Madrid route, and Air Europa, with the operation between Medellin and Madrid.
It is important to note that this initiative is subject to the airline’s operating capacity.
The company currently operates flights from Bogota to Madrid and Barcelona where it transported 174,000 passengers on some 800 flights during 2021. Avianca also continues to resume its operations to Europe with the inauguration of flights to London as of March 26.
Furthermore, the company expressed at FITUR2022 its intention to increase the capacity of its 787 Dreamliner fleet to 291 seats, 20 for business class, and 271 for economy class. This renovation would be accompanied by an improvement in the in-flight entertainment system.
