The Colombian airline confirmed  that ticket sales for this route have started. This is in line with their announcement done in August where they mentioned this flight would be one of the thirteen new international routes to be inaugurated in Colombia.

It will operate three weekly flights, which will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft with capacity for 150 passengers, offering 900 seats per week.

This flight joins the current operations in El Salvador, which has four weekly flights to Toronto with A319 and A320 aircraft.

«With the launch of this new route we want to connect our travelers in Colombia with Canada in a direct and non-stop way, recognizing the great growth that this country has had as a tourist, academic and business destination»,  said Ana Maria Copete, Director of Sales Colombia for Avianca.

Avianca will have to compete with Air Canada, which has four weekly flights between both cities and is operated with Boeing 787-9 aircraft, providing it with an offer of 2,376 seats per week.

In 2019, the link mobilized 85,907 passengers with an occupancy factor of 85.84% with the Canadian carrier.

New routes from Medellin, Cali and Bucaramanga, yet to be announced

Avianca Holding unveiled in August that there will be more than 20 new routes between the end of 2021 and the first half of 2022, thirteen of them from Colombia.

Most of the connections without a start date are from José María Córdova International Airport in Medellín (MDE) and Santiago de Cali (CLO).

Connections to Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico and Aruba from the aforementioned Colombian cities remain to be defined. A new route to Miami (MIA) is also set to start from Bucaramanga (BGA).
