    Avianca has notified Aeronáutica Civil of the indefinite suspension of two services between Colombia and Ecuador starting in August. With this announcement, the company reduces from 5 to 3 routes in this market.

    As of August 13, the airline suspends its operations between Cartagena and Guayaquil reducing its international offer at Rafael Nuñez Airport with the elimination of service to Ecuador. Avianca continues to provide international flights from Cartagena to Miami, New York, Sao Paulo and Santiago de Chile.

    With the departure of the Colombian company in this segment, Aeroregional and Equair will be the only airlines offering charter flights from Ecuador to Cartagena.

    The Medellin – Guayaquil route is cancelled as of August 16, 2023, the company will continue to operate to Ecuador from the capital of Antioquia with a non-stop service to Quito with three weekly flights. In addition, the Medellin – Quito route increases to four flights a week starting in late August.

    Avianca’s international network from José María Córdova Airport will have services to Aruba, Madrid, Mexico City, Miami, New York JFK, Punta Cana, Orlando and Quito.

    Aviacionline contacted Avianca’s team and mentioned that the services that were cancelled are part of a route optimization and the affected customers will be relocated to flights via Bogota.

    Avianca maintains its leadership in the Colombia – Ecuador market where it is positioned as the main airline operator in terms of seats per kilometer offered (ASK) according to Cirium (ASK). In total, the company will offer 20,520 seats per week in this segment in September.

    • Bogota – Quito: 29 weekly flights operated by Airbus A320ceo.
    • Bogota – Guayaquil: 29 weekly flights operated on Airbus A319, A320ceo and A320neo.
    • Medellín – Quito: four flights per week operated on Airbus A320ceo.
