Avianca Launches Grant Program to Support Women Who Want to Become Pilots

Avianca has launched a call for women who wish to develop professionally as pilots, implementing the program «El cielo es de ellas» (The Sky is Hers), through which it will grant 20 scholarships that will fund 100% of the career costs.
The Colombian airline has formed a partnership with five aviation schools located in Bogotá, Medellín, Barranquilla, Cali, and Villavicencio to bring this program closer to their places of origin, aiming to contribute to gender equity both in the company and in the aeronautical industry in general.
“We are proud to be able to pave the way for more and more women to conquer this industry and be part of its transformation. Through the scholarship program ‘el cielo es de ellas’, we seek to facilitate access to quality education in five of the best academies in different cities of the country, coupled with the opportunity to work at Avianca,» said Maria Carolina Cortés, Vice President of Corporate Communications at Avianca.
«We set out to start in Colombia, our home for these 104 years, where in addition to generating alliances, we are increasingly present in the key regions of the country and of our operation,” she added.
Requirements for the Women Pilots Scholarship Program
As detailed by Avianca on its employment website, these are the requirements to apply to the «el cielo es de ellas» program:
- Be a Colombian citizen.
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of applying for the scholarship.
- Have a high school diploma and degree certificate.
- Have a score on the Saber 11 Test of 350 points or higher.
- Have a certification that accredits an English level of B2.
- Provide two original signed personal references.
- Submit a 2,500-word essay describing why you want to be a pilot and how you believe a woman contributes to the aviation industry.
- Have full-time availability for studies (18 to 24 months).
- Complete the application form in full and attach the requested documents in the required order.
