ATR secures largest regional aircraft order in nearly a decade
Taiwanese airline UNI Air, a subsidiary of EVA Air Group, has placed a firm order for 19 ATR 72-600 aircraft, along with purchase rights for three additional units. This represents ATR’s largest order since 2017, according to the manufacturer, which specializes in regional turboprop aircraft.
Deliveries are scheduled between 2027 and 2032 and will allow UNI Air to both renew and expand its current fleet of 14 ATR 72-600s, as part of a broader strategy focused on modernization and operational growth. The aircraft will be equipped with next-generation PW127XT engines, an upgraded cabin, and a new air management system.
According to ATR, these enhancements will offer greater fuel efficiency, reduced maintenance costs, increased reliability, and an improved passenger experience.
Operating mainly from Taipei Songshan Airport, UNI Air serves 11 domestic destinations, including the outlying islands of Kinmen, Penghu, and Matsu. The airline plays a key role in domestic connectivity, linking urban and island communities and integrating with Taiwan’s broader transportation network.
“This is a major step in UNI Air’s strategy to enhance domestic air services, contributing to Taiwan’s dynamism at local, national, and regional levels” said Solomon Lin, Chairman of UNI Air. He added that “with this new order, we are reinforcing our commitment to maintaining a young and modern fleet to efficiently serve the domestic market, offering the highest standards of comfort and reliability.”
Nathalie Tarnaud-Laude, Chief Executive Officer at ATR, emphasized the airline’s role in the region. “UNI Air makes a meaningful difference for the communities it serves, providing them with the frequency, reliability, and connectivity they need.” She also stated that UNI Air’s confidence in ATR is “a powerful affirmation of the essential role our aircraft play in sustainable regional aviation.”
ATR highlights that the Asia-Pacific region remains its most dynamic market, where its aircraft are well-suited to the region’s diverse geography and evolving demographic needs.
