The Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Program by the Airports Council International (ACI) is the only institutionally endorsed global carbon management certification for airports. It provides a common framework and a tool for actively managing carbon emissions with measurable results.

The ACA program includes seven accreditation levels: "Mapping," "Reduction," "Optimization," "Neutrality," "Transformation," "Transition," and "Level 5 (the highest level)." Through each certification level, the airport industry can effectively reduce its carbon footprint, enhance energy efficiency, share best practices, and improve communication of results.

“We are proud to once again achieve Level 3 ACA (Optimization) certification for airports, for the third year in a row! This achievement reflects our commitment to reducing carbon emissions, engaging stakeholders, and driving sustainable operations. As we advance our carbon management efforts, we continue working toward a greener future for aviation,” airport authorities stated on LinkedIn.

    What Level 3 (Optimization) Means

Level 3 (Optimization) of the Airport Carbon Accreditation is awarded to airports that, in addition to mapping their carbon footprint and reducing emissions, actively engage third parties in carbon management.

In this regard, Aruba Airport has involved stakeholders in its carbon footprint management and expanded its scope to include various Scope 3 emissions.

These include airlines and service providers such as independent ground handling companies, catering businesses, fuel suppliers, and other airport-based operations.

Steps Taken to Reduce Carbon Footprint

The measures adopted to measure, manage, and reduce carbon emissions include:

    • Data collection
    • Inspections and audits
    • Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission calculations

These efforts are part of Aruba Airport's continued commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
