Air France takes delivery of its tenth Airbus A220-300

Last Monday, Air France took delivery of the Airbus A220-300 named «Auvers-sur-Oise». The aircraft, with registration number F-HZUJ, became the tenth of its type to join the company’s fleet. It is the airplane with manufacturer’s serial number (MSN) 55171.

The aircraft arrived at Paris-Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG) from the assembly plant in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada. It will be based at the Paris airport, from where it will operate short- and medium-haul flights, especially in Europe.

Sixty A220-300s will be progressively integrated into the fleet until 2025. With up to fifteen deliveries planned each year, this is «the fastest fleet integration of an aircraft in the history of Air France», the company remarked. The aircraft will gradually replace the oldest ones operating the short- and medium-range routes.

The Airbus A220-300 offers a 10% cost reduction per seat compared to the A318 and A319 models from the same manufacturer. It stands out for its fuel efficiency, enabling fuel savings of up to 20% compared to the aircraft it replaces. It emits 20% less carbon dioxide emissions and has a 34% lower acoustic impact.

In this context, the company highlighted its «Air France ACT» programme, which aims to reduce emissions per passenger and kilometer flown by 30% in 2030, compared to 2019. The initiative includes exclusively actions aimed at reducing direct and indirect emissions, beyond additional offsetting measures. The modernization of the fleet through the inclusion of more efficient models is a step in that direction.

During the summer of this year, Air France’s Airbus A220-300 will operate flights from its Paris hub to Berlin (BER), Hamburg (HAM), Munich (MUC), Rome-Fiumicino (FCO), Milan-Linate (LIN), Milan-Malpensa (MXP), Bologna (BLQ), Naples (NAP), Venice-Marco Polo (VCE), Madrid-Barajas (MAD), Barcelona-El Prat (BCN), Valencia (VLC), Lisbon (LIS), Copenhagen (CPH), Athens (ATH), Helsinki (HEL), Vienna (VIE), Warsaw (WAW) and Stockholm-Arlanda (ARN).
