Meanwhile, AerCap, the world’s largest aircraft leasing company, announced that it has signed long-term leasing agreements with Air Europa for five 787-9 and ten 737 MAX 8. The airline will become the first Spanish carrier to operate Boeing’s latest narrowbody family. Delivery of the aircraft is scheduled to begin in 2024 and gradually extend to 2026.

«For Air Europa, these new technology fuel-efficient aircraft will provide improved cost efficiencies and help them to meet their sustainability commitments», said Peter Anderson, CEO of AerCap.

«We are very pleased to reach this agreement with AerCap, with whom we have a long and successful relationship», said Richard Clark, CEO of Air Europa. «It reinforces our strategy of unifying the fleet around the most modern, efficient, and sustainable models in the industry», he assured about the company’s operational decision.

    Consolidating the recovery

Throughout this year, in response to the sustained growth in demand as a consequence of the industry recovery, Air Europa has expanded its fleet based on Boeing products. This way, it was able to regain routes and frequencies across its network, in addition to strengthening its position at its Madrid-Barajas (MAD) hub. During 2022, it will maintain flights to 23 routes in the Americas, and 33 in Spain and Europe.

The airline aims to reach and improve on pre-pandemic levels of activity during the second half of this year. In the same vein, it has already announced that it plans to increase the number of seats offered by 5% compared to 2019.
