Aeromexico resumes flights to Japan after a three-year hiatus

Aeromexico resumes operations to Japan after a three-year absence, starting March 25, 2023, with the return of its non-stop service between Mexico City (MEX) and Tokyo/Narita (NRT). The Japanese capital will be the only destination in Asia scheduled by the Mexican carrier, its services to Seoul/Incheon (ICN) remain suspended until further notice.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), 47,367 passengers were mobilized with an occupancy factor of 51.3% in the January-September 2022 period between Mexico and Japan. Japan is currently the Aztec country’s main market in Asia with a 47.35% share.
In mid-October, Japan opened its borders to international travelers, which allowed Aeromexico to schedule its operations to Tokyo (NRT) for the 2023 summer season. Passenger demand has increased significantly between Mexico and Japan, according to reports from the AFAC. The only airline offering non-stop service between the Mexican capital and Narita Airport (NRT) is All Nippon Airways, which offers daily flights on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
Flight Itinerary
- Mexico City – Tokyo/Narita Flight AM 58 MEX 00:25 – NRT 06:20+1 daily flights.
- Tokyo/Narita – Mexico City Flight AM 57 NRT 14:25 – MEX 12:55 daily flights.
The route will be operated on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft with a capacity of 243 seats (32 Premier Class/27 AM Plus Class/184 Economy Class) and promotional fares are available from USD 880 one way. Westbound, this non-stop service will have a duration of 14 hours and 55 minutes.
Aeromexico has Japan Airlines as a codeshare partner, allowing travelers to make domestic connections in Japan from the main hubs of the Japanese airline to destinations such as Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, among others.
According to data compiled through the AFAC, 233,723 passengers and 97,144.4 tons of cargo were mobilized in 2019 between Mexico City and Tokyo in 1,448 operations. The Japanese capital was the seventh busiest long-haul route from Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX).
