Yesterday, April 7th, marked Aeromexico’s first flight between Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and Palmerola International Airport (XPL), which serves Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras. Mexico’s largest airline will fly three times a week between the two airports and offer about 2,500 seats per month.

It will operate the route with Aeromexico Connect Embraer 190 aircraft. The company was already flying to San Pedro Sula (SAP), the second-most populous city in Honduras. With the new services, it will reach thirteen weekly operations in the country.

«Aeromexico is flying with a new air and we are excited to start operations at Tegucigalpa’s Palmerola Airport, a forward-thinking air terminal», said Giancarlo Mulinelli, Senior Vice President of Global Sales. «Strengthening our connectivity to Honduras and Central America is part of Aeromexico’s objectives and we will continue to provide our customers with the best travel options and the best service», he added.

Peter Fleming, CEO of EMCO Airports Division, which runs the Honduran airport, also welcomed the company’s arrival. «Aeromexico is an airline of recognized prestige and its arrival at Palmerola International Airport is vital to expand the connectivity of central Honduras, something that has only been possible thanks to its trust and commitment, as well as the operational facilities, technology, and security guarantees provided by our new air terminal», he commented.

With the addition of the new route, Aeromexico will operate more than fifty weekly flights in Central America. It joins other Mexican airlines that have recently strengthened their presence in the region. In October 2021, Volaris began flying to San Pedro Sula, favored by new Honduran legislation to encourage low-cost airlines.
