Aeromexico inaugurates flights to Rome

Aeromexico inaugurated its fifth destination in Europe by landing in Rome/Fiumicino (FCO), Italy, on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Flight AM70 landed at Fiumicino airport at 15:30 (local time) after a flight of 10 hours and 34 minutes, the operation was carried out in a Boeing 787-8 with registration N782AM.
The flight was also used to repatriate 43 archaeological pieces of Mexican cultural heritage that were in Italy, with the support of the Italian Foreign Ministry, from Rome to Mexico City.
The company returned to Italy after an absence of 14 years. Aeromexico operated between July 2008 and June 2009 with twice-weekly Boeing 767-200ER flights, with a stopover in Monterrey.
In response to the growing number of leisure travelers, Aeromexico returned to Italy with three flights a week and will increase to five in June. The operations will be operated by Boeing 787-8 aircraft with capacity for 243 passengers, offering 2,430 seats each week for the northern summer.
Aeromexico also announced a codeshare agreement with ITA Airways allowing connections to Milan, Turin, Genoa, Venice, Florence, Naples, Catania and Bologna.
Rome thus becomes Aeromexico’s fifth destination in the Old Continent, as it also operates to London/Heathrow (LHR), United Kingdom; Paris (CDG), France; Madrid (MAD) in Spain and Amsterdam/Schiphol (AMS), Netherlands.
Aeromexico flight schedule to Rome
- Mexico City (MEX) – Rome/Fiumicino (FCO) Flight AM 70 MEX 19:15 – FCO 15:15 (+1) Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Tuesdays and Fridays will be added as of June.
- Rome/Fiumicino (FCO) – Mexico City (MEX) Flight AM 71 FCO 22:00 – MCO 04:40 (+1) Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. Wednesdays and Saturdays will be added from June.
In 2019, Italy was Europe’s seventh most important market in Mexico, according to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), moving 150,500 passengers with operations by Alitalia, NEOS and Blue Panorama Airlines.
«The direct flight is an indispensable tool to materialize the great potential of tourist flows between the two countries. The direct Rome-Mexico City connection also represents a great opportunity to further increase the economic-commercial relationship between Italy and Mexico,» said Italy’s Ambassador to Mexico, Luigi De Chiara.
Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism highlighted that in 2022 more than 122 thousand Italians entered the country by various means of transportation.
