    Aena reported that during October its Spanish airports handled 26,616,109 passengers, an increase of 11% compared to the previous year and 7.8% compared to 2019, representing a historic record for the month.

    Of that total, 26,543,953 were commercial passengers, and of these, 18,350,305 belong to the international flights segment, a 13.1% increase from October 2022, and 8,193,648 to the domestic flights segment, representing a growth of 6.5%.

    Regarding aircraft movements, the network handled 219,482 operations, an increase of 5.1% compared with October 2022.

    Air freight, for its part, recorded an increase of 11.9% compared to October 2022, with 101,246 tons of goods managed.

    «The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in the tenth month of the year with 5,384,937, which represents a growth of 12% compared to October of the previous year,» Aena detailed.

    «They are followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 4,587,103 (+9.4% compared to 2022); Palma de Mallorca, with 3,286,052 (+7.3%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,215,936 (+17.1%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,586,073 (+17%); Gran Canaria, with 1,223,397 (+7.7%) and Tenerife Sur, with 1,058,521 (+9.7%)», they continued.

    Considering the number of air operations, «the airport with the most movements in October was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 34,551 (+8.2% compared to 2022), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 29,068 flights (+6.2%); Palma de Mallorca, with 24,222 (+2.7%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 15,585 (+10.5%); Gran Canaria, with 11,393 (+6.9%) and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 9,939 landings and takeoffs (+9.9%).»

    And regarding cargo, «the airport with the largest volume of cargo was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 60,471 tons, a 16.7% increase with respect to the same month of 2022. Followed by the airports of Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, which registered 14,445 tons (+5.2%); Zaragoza, with 13,633 tons (+12.7% compared with 2022) and Vitoria, with 6,199 tons (-0.8%).»

    With these figures, Aena’s airport network has accumulated between January and October 2023 a total of 243.2 million passengers, a figure 16.9% higher than the same period in 2022 and 1.9% higher than in 2019. Aircraft movements total 2,053,583 operations, an increase of 8.3%, while cargo grows 6.3% with 877.57.013 tons transported during the first 10 months of 2023.
