Congonhas Airport: Aena aims to benefit airlines that operate more efficient aircraft

Aena will benefit airlines operating at the Congonhas Airport with more environmentally friendly aircraft. This unprecedented program will be in effect from April to October 2024.

The consortium managing the Congonhas Airport (CGH), located in the heart of São Paulo city, will apply discounts to companies operating at CGH with more fuel-efficient aircraft that produce less noise.

These discounts will be applied through reimbursements to airlines, with a limit of up to one million reais for flights operated between April and October 2024.

The aircraft eligible for this incentive include the Boeing 737 MAX family, operated solely by Gol Airlines; the Airbus A320 neo family, operated by LATAM Airlines and Azul Linhas Aéreas; and the Brazilian-produced Embraer E-Jets E2 family, operated solely by Azul.

This initial seven-month period will serve to evaluate the program’s feasibility. If successful, Aena considers extending it for several more months.

In addition to incentivizing airlines, we have several sustainable projects for the modernization of Congonhas Airport in the coming years.»

Congonhas Modernization

According to our affiliated site Aeroin, Aena plans to start the modernization works at Congonhas Airport by the end of 2024 and conclude them by June 2028.

The project aims to provide more comfort for passengers, smoother traffic flow, and more efficient operations by remodeling the commercial platform and taxiways.

Sustainability Improvements

The renovation of Congonhas Airport will include the installation of a new electrical substation and more electrical equipment, using clean energy.

There will be a reduction in the use of fossil fuels and CO₂ emissions in energy services and aircraft air conditioning, and fuel distribution through pipelines, avoiding the use of trucks.

Total solid waste recycling will be carried out, and a water treatment and reuse plant will be constructed. Additionally, the passenger terminal will feature efficient cooling and air conditioning systems, as well as natural lighting.
