In a monumental feat, Avianca Cargo has once again set a new benchmark in the transportation of flowers, reinforcing its pivotal role in the shipment of floral products from Colombia and Ecuador to the United States.
During a recent visit to the Avianca Cargo operation at the cargo terminal of José María Córdova International Airport in Medellín, the company announced the performance results from the latest Mother’s Day season.
Working closely with Asocolflores, Airplan, DIAN, and ICA, Avianca Cargo transported thousands of tons of roses, chrysanthemums, astromelias, and hydrangeas across approximately 300 flights by the season’s end.
According to Juan Cruz Correa, Vice President of Sales at Avianca Cargo, “For another consecutive year, we have broken the record for flower transport from Colombia and Ecuador to North America, maintaining our leadership this season. We have significantly increased our service capacity, providing high levels of service, punctuality, and efficient delivery times to meet the demanding flower market requirements without affecting our other operations and routes.”
“We ended the Mother’s Day season with around 300 operated flights, and as a company, we are proud to contribute to one of the most important seasons for the floriculture sector. We look forward to strengthening it for many more years,” added Correa.
Plan Petalo Scope
“During this Mother’s Day season, the primary destination for flower exports from Colombia is the United States, accounting for 84% of total exports. Thanks to the joint efforts of various stakeholders in the logistics chain, such as Avianca Cargo, we can fulfill the Petal Plan program, ensuring the highest quality, efficiency, safety, and diversity,” said Augusto Solano, President of Asocolflores.
Colombia’s exported flowers entered North America through Los Angeles – the airline’s most recent entry point for flowers to the United States – and the regular hub, Miami. Also, roses of various colors from Ecuador were the most prevalent during the season.
