In a statement issued on the evening of March 8, the Colombian aeronautical authority – Aerocivil – authorized the airlines that contributed to transporting passengers affected by the collapse of Viva Air to «initiate a transition towards the suspension» of that measure, allowing the issuance of tickets with charge, although it refers to the commitment to offer a «protection fare.»

In line with measures previously taken, this protection fare would reach affected passengers as of March 12, the maximum date planned by Avianca, the operator that extended its rescue plan the most and carried the most passengers.

The aeronautical authority indicated that it would maintain coordination so that «the support provided so far will continue so that affected users find alternatives to make their trips.»
