Norse Atlantic to operate flights between Rome and New York starting in June

Norse Atlantic Airways will operate daily scheduled commercial flights between Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) and New York (JFK) from next 19 June.

In this way, the Italian capital will become the fifth destination in Europe served by the Norwegian low-cost airline from the Big Apple. It currently flies to the American city from Oslo-Gardermoen (OSL), London-Gatwick (LGW), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Berlin (BER).

Services are already being marketed through the airline’s official sales channels, with fares starting from 239 euros final one-way in Economy Light class and from 520 euros in Premium Light class. The operations will be carried out with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with capacity for 338 passengers.

According to Norse Atlantic in a press release, the daily service will depart from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) at 19:30 local time and arrive at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) at 23:00 Eastern Standard Time. The return flight will take off from New York at 1:00 the following day and land in Rome at 15:45.

“Customers on both sides of the Atlantic will be able to enjoy value, excellent onboard service and comfort while travelling between these two culturally vibrant and exciting cities”, commented Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO of Norse Atlantic. “The addition of Rome to our network will provide another gateway to Europe and strengthen our presence in New York”, he also noted.

Strong competition in the North Atlantic

Norse Atlantic has sought to capitalise on the sustained recovery in demand and traffic levels on routes in the North Atlantic, one of the world’s most profitable markets, since launching commercial operations in June 2022.

In this context, the airline faces strong competition on all its routes between Europe and North America. The new connection between Rome (FCO) and New York (JFK) will be no exception: the low-cost carrier will join three other operators already connecting the two airports.

Currently, American Airlines operates two daily flights with Boeing 777 aircraft, while Delta Air Lines offers three services a day with Airbus A330 and Boeing 767. On the other hand, ITA Airways maintains a frequency of 17 weekly connections with Airbus A330 and A350 aircraft.

Based on current schedules, the offer between the four airlines would reach a maximum of up to eight daily flights in both directions during the coming summer.
