Dominican Republic approves codeshare between Iberia and Qatar Airways
On Thursday morning (21), the president of the Dominican Republic’s Civil Aviation Board announced that the body had approved code-sharing operations between Iberia and Qatar Airways, which will allow Qatar to operate connecting flights from Doha to Santo Domingo via Madrid (Iberia) between March and October this year.
The Caribbean country began to increase cooperation with Qatar as early as 2021, when the deputy director general of the IDAC (Dominican Civil Aviation Institute) Héctor Porcella and and the business representative of the embassy of Qatar, Yasser Al-Abdulla, met in Santo Domingo to advance coordination between agencies.

Similarly, the Dominican Republic recently held meetings with the three largest airlines in the Persian Gulf – Qatar, Emirates and Etihad – to secure routes, as they are interested in reaching the coveted tourist destination and Dominicans in reaching the major business centers in the Middle East.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, Iberia will operate 80 direct flights between Madrid and Santo Domingo in May, with its Airbus A330-200 configured with 288 seats (19 in Business Class and 269 in economy), to offer a total of 23,224 monthly tickets on the route.
