RED Air finally started marketing flights from Santo Domingo/Las Americas (SDQ), Dominican Republic, to Miami (MIA), United States. Previously both routes were only sold through travel agencies and not from its website.

«As part of our positioning strategies, we have already made available to the market an interesting range of fares that have now been published through the entire network of Travel Agencies, commercial partners, and our electronic media to facilitate the search and purchase of tickets. We have prepared interesting offers and added values that will be appreciated and will motivate new customers to enjoy our services», said Héctor Gómez, CEO of RED Air.

Therefore, the airline will have two daily flights between Santo Domingo and Miami, becoming the second Dominican airline to offer flights to the United States. Air Century has flights from Santo Domingo (SDQ) to Miami (MIA) and New York (JFK), and another link between the Big Apple and Santiago de los Caballeros; all three links are operated on Sky Cana’s 220-passenger Airbus A321s.

RED Air is Venezuelan-owned by the Alvarez family, owner of LASER Airlines, as well as several Dominican partners. CEO Héctor Gómez explained that it plans to operate seven destinations in five countries by 2022 in the first stage of a three-phase strategy to be developed over the next two years.

«We currently have a team of more than 100 professionals across the different administrative, operational and commercial areas. We have a fleet of four McDonnell Douglas aircraft, equipped with a comfortable 12-seat business class cabin and a comfortable 137-seat economy class cabin, but the idea is to continue growing,» said Gómez.

«Furthermore we have authorization from the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) for operations to Tampa (TPA), Florida; San José (SJO), Costa Rica; Medellín (MDE) and Cartagena (CTG) in Colombia; Panama (PTY) and Caracas (CCS) in Venezuela».

The company informs that tickets may be purchased through the entire network of tourism services, such as travel agencies and tourism wholesalers, as well as through the website www.redair.com.do. Advice is also available at the airline’s sales offices located in Santo Domingo at Sarasota Avenue and at Plaza Morichal.

The market between Santo Domingo and Miami

It is the third most important link in the Dominican Republic. In 2021, 535,633 passengers were mobilized by four airlines (Air Century/SkyCana, American Airlines, Frontier, REDair, and Spirit), according to data obtained through the Civil Aviation Board (JAC).

The route experienced an increase in the number of travelers compared to 2019, mainly because American Airlines had a monopoly and during 2021 four airlines were added.

Finally, according to data obtained through the Cirium platform, we observe that, despite the entry of four new companies, American continues to dominate the market with 70% of the weekly seat offer, followed by REDair with 12% and Air Century/Sky Cana with 10%. Further behind are the low-cost carriers Frontier and Spirit, which share 4% of the supply.
