FedEx set to build a new regional hub in Dubai South to attend Middle East’s freight demand increase
FedEx is building a new regional hub in Dubai South, the logistics district located near Dubai World Central Airport in the United Arab Emirates. The new facility will feature the latest technologies to support FedEx Express’ regional and global networks and increase operational efficiencies to meet growing business demands in the Middle East, India and Africa region, the company announced in a statement.
The new FedEx regional hub will also facilitate future air traffic growth in Dubai, allowing the airline to expand its commercial presence in the region, according to the statement.
As reported by our partner site Aeroin, FedEx regional president for the region Jack Muhs said the new hub would be developed with sustainable operations and the lowest possible use of electricity. It would also feature an advanced automated sorting system, high-speed equipment, cold chain services, and the ability to handle dangerous goods.
According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Middle East recorded a 15.4% increase in international cargo volumes in August 2021 compared to August 2019. Other cargo carriers currently active at Dubai Airport include Cathay Pacific, Cargolux, Ethiopian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, China Airlines, China Airlines, Silk Way West Airlines, Astral Aviation, Cargolux Italy, and Silk Way Airlines.
