Avianca will be the first airline in South America to use the IATA Travel Pass
The IATA Travel Pass, the «digital passport» developed by IATA to facilitate health checks on international flights, will debut in South America with Avianca, the first company in the region to adopt it.
Initially, they detailed from the airline, a pilot test will be carried out on the flights between Bogota and Miami, and then gradually extend its application in other markets.
“For us, it is key to be able to simplify the requirements associated with Covid-19 for international travel and this provides greater tranquility and ease in the procedures, in addition to guaranteeing the biosecurity of passengers and our crews. The use of this application will not have any additional cost and, on the contrary, it will result in benefits, making the travel experience more pleasant and simple,” commented Michael Ruplitsch, Chief Information Officer of Avianca.
For his part, Peter Cerdá, IATA Regional Vice President for the Americas, said that “we are pleased that Avianca has chosen to pilot with IATA Travel Pass. We need reliable and secure solutions for verification of health credentials to meet government requirements, restore consumer confidence, and achieve a sustainable recovery for the industry. The IATA Travel Pass allows governments to give confidence that passengers have met health requirements, streamlines this process, simplifies the traveler experience and incentivizes travel, allowing aviation to reconnect the world’s economies.»
The application will be available for Android and iOS devices, and must be downloaded at least three to five days in advance in order to store the information required to travel and receive the results of the test carried out with the laboratory associated with Avianca.
