Embraer Phenom 300MED obtains FAA and EASA certification

-

The Embraer Phenom 300MED, the medical evacuation and transfer operations solution developed for the Phenom 300 series of aircraft, has received the supplemental type certification (STC) from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The manufacturer had first announced that it would begin work on the adaptation in August 2020. Since then, the world’s best-selling light business jet has gone through the rigorous process of obtaining certification from regulatory authorities to allow it to perform MEDEVAC (Medical Evacuation) operations.

The certification was carried out at Embraer’s Service Centre in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This will enable the Phenom 300MED to begin operations for its launch customer, on-demand charter company GrandView Aviation.

“We are pleased to announce the certification of the Phenom 300MED by the Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency”, said Marsha Woelber, Vice-President of Worldwide Executive Jets Customer Support & Aftermarket Sales, Embraer Service & Support. “The MEDEVAC solution provides superior value, benefiting from a market-leading product such as the Phenom 300 series, combining its unique capabilities with a fully-comprehensive medical solution”, she added.

Phenom 300MED’s medical flight suit interior was specified by Embraer and developed in conjunction with engineering services provider Umlaut and Aerolite, which developed an intensive care unit for the model.

In accordance with certification requirements, Umlaut completed a test that demonstrated that the solution can evacuate up to two fully incapacitated patients.

In addition, Embraer and Umlaut worked on a number of configuration alternatives to suit the needs of each operator. The options include the installation of one or two stretchers on board, as well as the possibility of carrying an incubator and additional medical equipment. In addition, the interior can be reconfigured for executive services within five hours.
