Last Thursday, August 5, the first commercial flight of Aerolineas Argentinas‘ Boeing 737 MAX with registration LV-HKW departed from Aeroparque Airport after more than two years. The aircraft had been parked at Ezeiza since March 2019, following the grounding after the Lion Air and Ethiopian accidents, which occurred in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Currently, the Boeing 737 MAXs registered in Argentina are authorized to resume operations, so Aerolíneas Argentinas will be reincorporating the two that are still out of service in Buenos Aires.

The company has active Boeing 737 MAX registered as LV-HKU and LV-GVD, in addition to the LV-HKW. These Boeing 737 MAX will operate only domestic routes, to and from Aeroparque. Later on, they will resume flights to regional countries, as they did before the limitations, where they operated to Punta Cana, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, among other destinations.

Aerolineas Argentinas has five Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in its fleet. One of them is at Aeroparque while the other is stationed at Ezeiza:

    • LV-GVD: Active
    • LV-GVE: Ezeiza Airport
    • LV-HKU: Active
    • LV-HKV: Aeroparque Airport
    • LV-HKW: Active

Aerolíneas Argentinas’ five MAXs should be back in service shortly, if there are no changes in their schedule. Regarding the MAXs the carrier is due to receive, the contract is still in force but there are still no details of dates or possible changes.

Copa Airlines has regular operations between Panama City and Buenos Aires with its Boeing 737 MAX 9. The frequency of flights depends on ANAC authorizations. GOL Linhas Aéreas also had operations to Argentina with the MAX, but flights to the country are suspended until at least November.
